Description
Colorful autumn trees line the Flume Gorge trail and the Sentinel Pine Covered Bridge at Franconia Notch, New Hampshire, NH. I love the way the path zig-zags back and forth; the rocks seem to follow a similar type of pattern as well. The Sentinel Pine Bridge was constructed in 1939 out of a massive 90 foot tree that had blown down in a 1938 hurricane; the tree was estimated to be 100 years old at the time. Using some other pines that had blown over during the same hurricane, workers used this massive pine tree as a foundation for the pedestrian bridge.
