Description
A blue sky Ferris wheel with lovely cloud patterns at The Spencer Fair in Spencer, Massachusetts, MA, 01562. This photograph started as an infrared photo from my IR converted camera and ended up with a bit of a retro, vintage look. In my mind, the background sky and clouds looked like the globe or the world. "On Top of the World" fine art photography & prints by Luke Moore.
The Spencer Agricultural Fair has been held in Spencer since 1888 and most recently has been located at the Spencer Fairgrounds. In 1892, William Somers had built wooden versions of similar type of amusement ride wheel at Asbury Park, Atlantic City, and Coney Island. Somers called it A Roundabout. The first Ferris Wheel was originally invented by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. and was finished in 1893. Ferris was an engineer from Pittsburgh, PA and spent $25,000 of his own money on handpicked engineers, numerous safety tests, and for recruiting additional investors.
